Melaphyre – Avogadro’s # (The Briar Patch)
C Flux Album Covers, C Flux Illustrate
Just to give a likkle insight to what the album is about… This excerpt was taking from the Artists album page, “Avogadro derives from Avogadro’s law which states that equal volumes of ideal or perfect gases, at the same temperature and pressure, contain the same number of particles, or molecules for those of us who may have forgotten chemistry.
In the music context, Melaphyre is able to combine a collection of abstract yet soulful songs set to the base of eclectic and melodic tracks of melodies and beats into a polished album.
Briarpatch sets the mood and setting for the album with subjects ranging from self identification in Identifying to inner city conspiracy tales in the Establishment. Briarpatch takes the listener on a first person empowering journey through the struggles of life in a capitalistic and often times prejudiced based society.
With minimalist beats by Etheoryall, the album feels like the Pan African audio stylings of a Stanley Kubrik film with a fast paced and well developed style. “.
With that said, the artist had his concept ready. The illustration was based on a photo of himself a photographer had taken. He wanted me to capture the above description with in it. After listening to the album, I had a vision and understanding that after all the years of civil rights fighting, advancements and such… not much changed. The vibration was all perseverance in spite of conditions. It felt like old conditions so I wanted to make the atmosphere surrounding him way more desolate. The house was already torn up yet he’s on the porch with a weapon… he’s himself and the home. Home is where the heart is, so it’s like he’s protecting his soul after all the hardships, trials and tribulations. I wanted it to look more tattered, worn and dilapidated because to still have a desire to protect and strive surrounded by these conditions… shows one’s power.
