Don’t Mean A Thing – Beat Studies

This is not an album cover, just a single cover. “Don’t Mean A Thing” is a collaboration between 3 solo mcee’s and a producer. We all liked the beat at different stages of it’s presentation and the producer Bj suggested that we all just get on it. Something quite spontaneous this project was but it shows how creativity can grow.

A couple of months after recording, the idea of a video came about. The video captured the essence of the track which is based on that old Big Band performance crossed with Hip-Hop music. Swing dancers blended with B-Boys and B-Girls  to execute grand choreography. After the video was completed, came the decision to showcase it in a public arena. Beat Studies put the event together and they needed a cover. This is where I come in. I just drew from the video outfits and used a blues/ragtime style of text to give you a feel of the track without hearing it.

I nailed it. We needed promotion as well so I just extended the original illustration into a large poster. The event was a success and well received.
