Gensu Dean + Planet Asia – Abrasions
C Flux Album Covers, C Flux Illustrate
This piece was originally created for an Art Show at The City Of Ink called “Enough is Enough”. Inspired by police brutality in our inner city neighborhoods as well as the murders of Oscar Grant, Sean Bell and the countless other youths who died at the hands of police officers. Fast forward to 6 or 7 years, Mellow Music Group wanted to license the art work for an album called “Abrasions” created by Gensu Dean and Planet Asia. To use it as such was a great reminder of a threat in our communities and what better music to represent that voice than Hip-Hop. Needless to say… I was down for it.
After discussing it a while further, the natural next step was for me to layout the design work for the CD packaging as well as the Limited Edition of Vinyl packaging. My vision was to get up close and personal with it. A situation like the one illustrated is intimate… it’s close and there may not be an exit. The music is the same way. Details of daily activities of intelligent city dwellers living life with awareness. A likkle flash as well. HAAA.
