Rob Swift – Who Sampled This?
C Flux Album Covers, C Flux Illustrate
For those of us that was growing up during the 90’s and early 2000’s, Dj Rob Swift is a part of the legendary Dj/Turntablist group called “The X-Men”. They are some of the best dj’s ever!!! World re-known before any type of internet. Because of their popularity, Marvel put a cease and dissest on them. From there, the name was changed to “X-ecutioners” and started to produce albums for the masses.
For a short time, Rob Swift was a label mate of my music group (Binkis Recs) on Day By Day Entertainment. After one of the owners saw the design I produced for our album cover, he immediately wanted to funnel me some work. Rob Swift’s album was the first.
The album was pretty much a mix of songs that producers sampled with some dj creativity surrounding it. Didn’t speak to Rob so I went off what I gathered from the album title itself. I decided to go with a game theme. I worked about a week or two on it and then ran into a situation where the file was corrupted. Smh… things a designer never wants to experience. HAAA! Fast forward… Crunch Time! I came up with the idea to use the equipment a producer would use to sample records. Great idea to me… and the client as well. You can see the MPC screen, data disks, turntables and a pixelated look applied to the design. I like to use the rough backgrounds to represent the history involved with Hip-Hop music so you may find that in some other designs of mine. Score one for C Flux! FISKKK!
