Lyric Jones – Jones Street
C Flux Album Covers, C Flux Illustrate
This is one of those projects in which I completed the jobs of about 3-4 creative professionals. HAA. I was the Creative Director, Photographer, Illustrator, and Graphic Designer. It wasn’t originally planned that way but that’s how it turned out.
Lyric Jones was and up and coming artist at this point and this Album was her introduction to the world in defining her brand. She liked the work I did for some of her peers and wanted to work with me. Cool! I’m always down to help jump start artists with a professional package so we had a pow wow. A rough concept was developed as well as a direction of how to execute it.
“Jones Street” concept is a ‘day in the life’ of Lyric Jones. The ups and downs one may have as an independent artist or just as an individual. The photography was to tell that story and when her original photographer bailed… I took the reins. As far as the illustration goes… Jones Street was a representation of where she is headed. A goal to reach if you will. Originally, she was suppose to be reaching towards the sign but I went with this image because her face had some doubt in it. That’s the reality of achieving… you will run into doubt but if you stay focused, you will get there.
The angle was new for me. I wanted the same feel of looking upwards but not so straight forward. I wanted the viewers eye’s to be challenged a likkle bit so the diagonal view does that. The highlights and sun shine techniques was also a new direction for me in that I never tried those. It was important for them to work here because it added to the goal of getting to “Jones Street”. The light at the end of the tunnel. The birds represent flight, soaring and satisfaction in reaching those heights you set out to obtain. So, there is a lot of symbolism to the perspective of the illustrated cover.
The Cover Illustration paved the way for the Design part of the project. Keeping everything cohesive, I ran with the clouds and sky element through out. Your goals are always gonna feel like a dream until you work to make them a reality but you keep that vision for focus and perseverance in doing so.
